Hello, I would like to know if Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 is in the public domain or not? It was composed in 1937.

In most countries music passes into the public domain a certain number of years after the composer’s DEATH, irrespective of when the piece was written. Shostakovich only died in 1975 (36 years ago) and so his music will remain copyright in most territories for some time to come (eg until 2045 in the UK).

In most countries it is not in the public domain.
In the US copyright lasts 70 years after the death of the author. Soviet and now Russian copyright law has similar longevity.
