when we did a unit on romantic era music in my music study class, they talked about the nut cracker suite as being romantic.
according to wikipedia, the romantic era was from 1815 – 1910, whilst the classical era was from 1730 – 1820
The nut cracker suit first premiered in 1892, so i would say it is definetely romantic era.

Romantic. As you probably know, the Nutcracker Suite was composed for the ballet, which tells the story of the little girl going on all those magical adventures with food and everything, and anyway… Romantic music was when music began to tell stories. If you listen to music from the period right before it – Classical – it is a bit more rigid, and it goes by a specific form. Romantic music has less specific formats and is more free.

Yes this is a romantic piece although most people think of it as Classical or Baroque because of the harsh and soft tones that go along with it. However, "The Nutcracker Suite" is definitely Romantic because of the era that it was released, (1892)
