Question by TBL: Isn’t there a model of the AK-47 that’s more compact and smaller than the standard one?
Is there a version of the AK-47 that’s more compact? Or something similar?

AK pistol, AK w/folding stock, Krinkov (Krink)
the AK pistol is legal in some states as a pistol.
AK w/folding stock is legal in many states as a rifle
AK Krinkov falls as a SBR, you'll need NFA paperwork to get it legally.

There are tons. Probably too many to list. I'll only go into the ones that are internally similar to the AK-47/AKM/AK-74 type receiver, and use the same 7.62x39mm round. Otherwise this could go on forever. 😛
The standard AK-47 is 870mm (34.25 inches) long.
The Chinese Type 86 is a bullpup version of the AK-47, at 667mm.
The Finns have the Valmet M82, another AK-47/AKM bullpup, at 710mm.
Of course the Russians have a multitude of compact AK-type rifles. The AK-104 is based off the AK-74, except in good old 7.62 (824mm). The weird looking OTs-14 Groza is available in 7.62, and is 610mm long. The Russians had an entire series of experimental bullpup AKs as well, usually called "Korobov TKB-###". These were tiny, little more than 500mm.
So of course you have your "pistol" versions of the AK, folding stocks and stockless AKs, but I wanted to point out the more interesting and lesser known models. Enjoy!

Well like Nitro stated: Pistol, Under or side folder, Kinkov.
Now a Krinkov falls under a Short Barrel rifle which is government by the National Firearms Act.
