Question by Cleo: chekhov’s three sisters on video?
anybody know of a good movie version or play recording of the chekhov play three sisters? i’ve only read the play and would love to see it performed. there’s one version available on amazon but the comments for it say that the audio is practically inaudible. anyone have any better quality suggestions or know if that copy really is that bad?

I have never bought the one from amazon but the best one that there is, is the film adaptation that was directed by Laurence Olivier in 1970. You can get it from http://www.towerrecords.ie/viewdetails.asp?source=froogleuk&hfldUnitID=131935

This adaptation of Anton Chekhov's THREE SISTERS was part of the American Film Theater series, conceived in the 1970s by producer Ely Landau, and meant to be shown theatrically just like a play, with tickets sold in advance. The play focuses on a trio of sisters who live far away from the big city they yearn for, Moscow. Olga, Masha, and Irina all seek relief from their dreary lives and dream of somehow returning to the city they love just as Russia is about to endure a social and political upheaval that will change it forever. Directed by Laurence Olivier, THREE SISTERS is a brooding and intense version of Chekhov's classic.

The recording I linked is the only one I could find for sale. It's true isn't too easy to understand, but since you have read it, it should be possible. Also, there are several clips available on youtube, so you could check if you can understand the dialogue here: http://www.youtube.com/
