Russian Ravioli

Russian foods are the best and the Russian Ravioli or the Pelmeni is the traditional Russian food that has gained tremendous popularity in many parts of the world. Pelmeni is one of the most ancient foods in Russia. In Europe, this food is sometimes referred to as ravioli. Both appear the same and they taste great.

Russian ravioli is made with pork mixed with ground beef, and salt and minced onion are used as ingredients. Sometimes ground turkey is mixed with ground beef or even chicken. Some people also use buffalo meat as their choice. Russian Ravioli are usually prepared at any family event where the entire family gets around the table to enjoy the ravioli. Hundreds of ravioli are prepared for any family event and they can be refrigerated for further use.

Nowadays you even have the convenience of buying ravioli from Russian supermarkets. But surely homemade ravioli or pelmeni tastes much better and Russian housewives would agree to it. However, there are students and bachelors who find the factory made more delicious.

To prepare the Russian ravioli all you need is warm water, eggs, flour, salt, ground pork, ground beef, finely chopped onions, and black pepper. At first, the flour is taken into the large bowl.

Sometimes people find it convenient to pile the flour onto a clean surface instead of a bowl. The eggs are cracked into the cup and then the beating process is followed to mix the yolks and the whites. Warm water is added to the eggs and then mixed thoroughly. An indentation is prepared into the large bowl containing the flour and then water/egg mixture is poured into it. Then a fork is taken to mix everything and then kneading is vigorously performed for the dough. Ravioli dough is expected to be soft and elastic but care should be taken not to make it sticky. The dough is then covered and allowed to stand for thirty minutes. The dough is covered with a white cloth as per the real Russian tradition.

For fillings, sometimes factory-made ground meat is used along with pork, beef, pepper, onions, and salt together. The dough is rolled so it looks like a sausage and then cut into small pieces at one-inch intervals. Then the pieces are flattened to form circles. The meat filling is placed into the center of the circle and the dough is folded such that the inside fillings get completely sealed. The ends are pinched together to make the ravioli round. Water is then boiled and the dough prepared till now is dropped one by one into the boiling water. It is recommended to stir the ravioli so they do not stick to each other. After a few minutes, the ravioli will start floating in the boiling water and will come to the top. Now you should be ready to serve the ravioli.
