That's not very smart. Russia isn't some 3rd country terrorist group, even if it was a big one in Iraq, Russia has an army. With LOTS of tanks. And nukes. It would be the stupidest move we have ever made if we were to do that.
Insightful says
Nah, Russia is doing the same to Georgia as we did to Iraq. They have every right to do it, people don't see it that way because they think of Russia as still the Soviet empire which is incorrect.
The United States shouldn't even get involved at all, period.
Visor says
Absolutely not.
There are other means to influence Russia. Besides direct conflict between USA and Russia will end nuclear winter…
As for the jeopardy, well it's not immediate to US, except if Russia rebuilds the empire again it will be a problem for all of the western world.
Just look at them now, they got some money from inflated oil prices and already flexing military muscles…
Invaded Georgia – check.
Threatened Poland, Ukraine and few other countries to nuke them – check.
Supporting separatists in former soviet republics – check.
Helping Iran to build nuclear weapons – check.
Oppressing freedom of speech in Russia itself – check.
Jailing political opponents in Russia – check.
Confiscating successful private businesses in Russia – check.
Those guys are rebuilding communist country, just under different name. If they succeed USSR will be back, with old problems. Who wants that except commies in Russia?
Russia and WW II – I acknowledge the great role they played in destroying fascism and respect their losses, but…
While liberating from Nazis, Russia occupied half of the Europe at that, bringing "wonders" of communism to those countries for 40+ years. Including invasions of Hungary in 1956, Czechoslovakia in 1968, Afghanistan in 1979. Exporting communism to north korea, Vietnam and many other countries.
Also, since we went into history, it's curious and sad that in 21st century Russia is the only country that invaded and currently occupies sovereign nation with an excuse "to protect Russian citizens".
In 20th century the only country to do that was… Nazi Germany, Invading first Sudetenland, then Czechs and finally Poland using the same excuse – "to protect Germans".
The only difference being that Hitler was invading to "protect" ethnic Germans, while Russia had no ethnic Russians in S.O, so they had to hand out Russian passports to S.O. separatists first, to create the justification.
GARISH says
A lot of people in the history thought the same.
It ended bad for them.
I Love God and the U says
We need to do something!! I think the free world needs to freeze Russia's money! We need to demand that Putin steps down for good! All of the free world needs to get on board and force Russia to stay within it's borders! russia is a big bluff! All it has is outdated nucs and offers the world nothing but oil! they are moving into areas that will give them more oil and power! We need to let Georgia and the Ukrain into NATO immediatly! Russia is not to be feared especially now!!

IM DOWN WITH THAT
Nightwind says
Its amazing how many of you have no clue or sense of history.
We could have easily taken over Germany if we just kept pushing in WW2, we didn't because it wasn't our goal.
Since Russia was out ally and battered pretty bad by the fight with Germany, we could have easily taken them out as well, But there again, it wasn't out goal to over take every country and be some ruling empire.
Today, the russians ……rather the russian politicians haven't changed all that much. They are still wary of the USA, they still do'nt trust people, and Putin is X-KGB.
Invading would be a sure sign that we are burning that bridge and have no intention of having friendly relations with a country that has a tendency of seeking vengence. Not a good thing. Especially when they have a seat on the UN weapons committee
Harry V says
Hell NO! Why fight Russia for Georgia? How are our people or interest in jeopardy by Russia invading Georgia?
William B says
no. Russia has a way bigger and organized fighting force more than Iraq did. Iraq was just sad. we took that place in what seemed like a few weeks.
Nick W says
No.
Have you seen Mike H says
You are kidding, right? The country has nukes. It is not just a country you invade, like we did with Iraq. But if you feel like starting up the draft, make sure to include the all the neo-cons and their sons and daughters who chickened out on going to Iraq.
Smiley Virus says
The russians are just bringing freedom to georgia
razawire says
hahahah good luck with that, why anyway? oh yeah they got alot of oil
