Centralized planning means the decisions are comming from the top down.
This destroys individual creativity and ability.
When the power comes from the government down to the people, you have an impoverished dictatorship.
When the power comes from the people to the government, people are free to develop their ideas and abilities and everyone benefits.
That is how the United States created the greatest civilization the world has ever known.
That is why the Soviet government had millions of people dying from starvation and finally collapsing after 70 years.

Inflated numbers of production. Many factory managers lied about their actual output for personal gain. Also the same factories that produced military equipment also produced home appliances. Many home appliances blew up because they were extremely faulty, to say the least.
