Question by Kris: When is the cheapest time of year to fly from US to Vladivostok?
I have been to Russia a couple times with different groups, but never on my own. Does anyone know the “off season” when I can get plane tickets really cheap??? Obviously I don’t want to go in the middle of winter… mainly because it would be harder to see things, not because of the cold. I really want to visit Vladivostok…

If you are looking for cheap flights I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss winter. With a little planning ahead it’s not much more difficult to get around and the places booming with tourists in the peak season can be seen leisurely and more intimately. If dead set on not going in winter, fall is your next best bet. You can check trends depending on where in the US you will be leaving from on Kayak.com.

I think there is always the "off season" if you want to travel to Vladivostok. Buying tickets in advance is a good idea though. Personally, I don't understand what you want to see in Vladivostok. Nothing special about this city, I think. Traffic and bad roads. Just stay at home/hotel after the sun goes down, really! Crime never sleeps. If you want to see the real nature go to Kamchatka (Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) You will love it. Here is a link: <a href="http://www.peleken.ru” target=”_blank”>www.peleken.ru

i have found that tickets to russia were best purchased about 6-8 weeks prior to departure for the best price. if you dont mind switching planes you can also save money than purchasing a direct flight.. of course arrival and departure dates also can save you money. i understand by next year there will be more options for overseas flights and the rates should drop considerably….. so if you can wait until next year, that would be the optimal time to go!
