What’s the difference between Russian and Ukrainian?
And how much different are they?

Ukraine become a it’s own country after the dissolution of the soviet union. Ukraine has a free market economy, Russia is has a centrally run communist economy. They hate each other.

It is interesting to read the responses of people who have no idea what they say. Although the latter response is closer to the truth, and the first corresponding apparently has no concept that communism in Russia has not arrived.

Russian and Ukrainian languages are both Eastern Slavic languages, that's why they are rather close to each other. You might think about the similarities like between Italian and Spanish. Only knowing any of these languages very well you can understand another one. Knowing just one of them doesn't guarantee you will understand both.
