Question by Dan: What is the most effective way to learn Russian?
I am using the “Living Language” program but I can’t seem to follow it that closely. Right after the alphabet it takes some large steps that are tough to keep up with. Are there any other programs and/or ways that I can learn Russian?
P.S. I know about Rosetta Stone but it is too expensive

Well, I used Living language, and it’s a very good method. But I also used Conversational Russian in Seven Days, by Sarah Baldwin and Shirley Boas. And also the Pimsleur system. Also, If you need some online resources, google up Natalia Worthington’s “A Spoonful of Russian”, a great site, and free for everybody to use, including useful podcasts.

Living Language is awesome. Don't give up on it.
However, if you need something to get you past that initial hump, go to http://livemocha.com/ and start the Russian lessons on there. That will get you an introduction to the language, and then you'll learn a lot from Living Language.
Stick with it. Don't give up. I promise it's not as hard as people make it out to be.
