The size of the Soviet and American nuclear arsenal as of 1961?

Question by Nick H: What was the size of the American and Soviet nuclear arsenal as of 1961?
I need to know the amount of nuclear weapons, preferably including bombs *and* short/medium/long range ballistic warheads, held by both the Soviet Union and the United States, as of the early 1960s (1960-1964). Thanks!
Does anyone know a rough estimate? The 30k sounds about right, but I would like some sort of confirmation. Is there a certain place where I would find this information?

I know the US and the USSR had around 30,000 Nukes total around 1962. Now, the number is over 60,000. The number of normal bombs (Rockets and Bombs dropped from planes) will probable never be determined.

The USA had enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world 10 times over. The soviet union had enough to destroy the world 2 times over. This was as of 1961. Both sides continued to build more.
