Was Adelina Sotnikova better than Yuna Kim in Sochi?

Question by WKA: Do you agree with Tatiana Tarasova? Tarasova clearly states that Adelina Sotnikova was better than Yuna Kim?

First, I have been congratulating Adelina Sotnikova on her gold medal in ladies’ solo figure skating!
I agree that Yuna Kim was good, but I have no problem with the fact that Sotnikova beated Kim. In fact, I prefer Adelina Sotnikova than Yuna Kim, especially jumps.

For example,

Sotnikova element had a much higher base score, because she decided to make the most difficult version of a double jump – double axel. She has been praised for evenness, height and amplitude performance. She also received a 10 percent premium for the performance of this combination in the second half of the program.

Double jump Kim was one of the easiest, so this element has its lower base value. Sunset on the element was simple, and the jump was completed at a low speed.

Next winter Olympic, I believe that all Russian’s favourite, the young prodigy Yulia Lipnitskaya and our another prodigy Elena Radionova will get Golds, I think.

I never agree with Tarasova fullstop.

But I agreed with the Sochi result.

And I’m tired of the endless b*tching. Kim lost, get over it already, she’s not perfect.

Also, the USSR hasn’t existed in over twenty years. I strongly suggest you change your question. Even I find that offensive and I’m not even Russian.

Well, it’s expected. Tarasova is Russian after all and an indirect part of Adelina’s coaching team. I don’t think that her comments were appropriate but I’ve never really cared about her opinions anyway. It’s always been about the political game with her. She’s not convincing anyone who’s not already on her side and actually made the Russians look even worse. Bias is a really interesting thing. It can make normally intelligent and rational people believe in the most absurd things even when facts prove otherwise. I’m not a fan of either Yuna or Adelina so I consider my assessment pretty objective, and I do not believe the scoring and results to be correct. Yes there is a large degree of subjectivity in judging, but technical elements weren’t even called correctly. Tarasova can say whatever she wants. By going as far as to criticize Yuna’s dress of all things she’s lost credibility with a lot people.

Adelina: double footing, underroted jumps…wrong edge…level 3 stepped sequence cheated to level 4 which Adelina never received for the identical sequence. OUTrageous GOE score of so many “3”(the highest score for a jump) that Yuna and Carolina’s combined “3”‘s is still less than Adelina.
