Question by Eric F: Was Pushkin partly Arabic?
I can’t find it on wikipedia (shocker!) but Pushkin looks slightly arabic/jewish. Does anyone know? I really hope he was not a jew.

Actually, the very first paragraph of the biography section of the Wikipedia article for Pushkin says that his great-grandfather was from Africa, probably from Cameroon.

However I look at it, I find this sentence of yours absolutely repulsive.

Pushkin's grandfather was a black slave who was sent as a gift from the Sultan of the Turks to the Tsar
Anyone's guess where grandpa was captured- the Turks and the Arabs consumed over 95% of the slave trade and depopulated half of Africa in the process. Arab slavers raided even Iceland- not to mention the coast of Mozambique and India
One of the most likely places where the grandpa could have come from is Ethiopia- this country fought for centuries to resist enslavement by the muslims- and won
It is unlikely that grandpa was born in captivity- that did not happen much in Arab/ Turkish realities
BTW, What has "race" to do with poetry?
