  1. vive la emperor says

I actually wrote a research paper on something like this. My theory is that after winning in 1809 against Austria, Napoleon could of raised armies in the Confederation of the Rhine, Duchy of Warsaw, Kingdom of Italy, and Naples to prevent Austria, Prussia, or Russia from going to war with him. In the meantime Napoleon would of lead 100,000 French soldiers into Spain, using this army he could defeat Wellington and force the British out of Spain and then put down the Spanish revolts. Without the Spanish as their ally the British would be alone in their war against Napoleon, the Russians would most likely make a new peace with Napoleon since he would have 300,000 soldiers freed up from Spain plus his armies in his allied states to use against them. All of this would most likely be done by late 1810 and the French economy would not suffer as it had in 1811 and 1812. With Britain isolated and continental Europe pacified a peace could not of been far off.

Now if Napoleon had won at Leipzig but everything up to that point had gone historically, unless Napoleon was able to reform his army, replace his incompetent commanders with better ones, and persuade Austria to revert to neutrality or defeat Prussia, then he would ultimately be defeated. During the later part of the 1813 campaign the allied countries had a "reserve" army that possibly numbered as many as 800,000. So unless Napoleon did the above there would be another bloody year of warfare that would end with a delayed invasion of France.
