What are Russian Valenki boots like?

Question by Feivel JPAA: Has anyone ever work Russian Valenki boots?
I have a friend who wants to get me a pair of Russian valenki boots for my birthday. They are felt and you can wear rubber shoes over the boots to keep out wetness. He says they are warm and excellent shoes but I don’t want him spending the money if they are not comfortable and I don’t know anyone who has ever worn them. Can anyone give me any insight into them?
Thanks
Ok, obviously I meant “wore Russian Valenki boots”. Type o. Sorry.

They are super comfortable (think Uggs) and warm and inexpensive, but they are not exactly snow boots either (wool felt shrinks after getting it wet). Most modern ones already have a rubber sole to eliminate the problem.

BTW, even the Russian army wore them during WWII.

Personally, I've always hated them – they're so gray and dreary. They're not expensive at all, but the only reason you might want them is for the "exoticity" factor. My valenki were always very prickly (or maybe those were my wool socks?) but they usually conform to the shape of your foot pretty well.
