The Czar never wanted to kill him and stories of an affair between Rasputin and the Czarina are unfounded – just rumors spread by the aristocracy who hated both the Czarina and Rasputin. Rasputin was anti-war and tried to get equal rights for the peasants and the severely oppressed Jews at the time. Since Russia was an extremely anti-Semitic society, Jews and anyone who helped them were considered evil. The nobility also hated that Rasputin wanted the Czar to be a czar of all Russian people, not just the nobility. So, they tortured and killed him, much the same way they did in the slaughter of entire towns of Jews, in raids called pogroms.

The Czar didn't want him killed the Aristocrats did. He had a great deal of control over the Czar's wife and people were concerned it would lead to Monarchy's downfall.
