What do Russian teenagers do during the summer?

Question by Alex: What do teenagers in Russia do during the summer?
In my Russian class, we are always studying customs, culture, etc. In our recent assignment, we need to figure out what teenagers do during the summer in Russia (then write an essay in Russian). I don’t know anyone who is of Russian blood, so maybe someone out in the crowd can tell me? I’m assuming it’s not much different than here, but I’m still wondering.

Ooh, childhood, how much in this word! I remember, that when I was 7 years old, parents bought bicycle for me. I was on whiles with friend in this summer. When i was 8 years old, I spent the whole summer in front of TV playing video games. Then Sega has been in almost every home. We even arranged tournaments MK3u! (By the way, some parents was attended) When i was 10 years old, ended time of swords and bows made of twigs of maple and sand cities with huge vehicle fleets, airports, harbors… Then i first became acquainted with computer. Even when parents expelled us out and we were sitting around the campfire in the nearest grove (It’s good, that my village is surrounded by forests), this did not change the situation.
I don’t remember that was be when i was 11 years old. But i understand that my body became ready for work. We are (with friends) developed coal seams in abandoned quarries. I remember that i gained about 15 thousands rubbles (it was be good money for 2002).
13 years old… It was summer of sport… morning run at 6 a.m. for 4-5 km, two pounds kettlebell, 2 five kg dumbbell, horizontal bar and own body weight made my days.
Motocycle. It was motocycle, when i was 14 years old. Blue Jupiter-5… I was all summer on wheels again. I have traveled all over the city that summer. It is a pity, but the bike was stolen in September.
And adulthood begun in 15… Half-summer i close debts in scool and prepared for college…
It’s story of one unusual, but cheerful and happy childhood. Why it’s unusual? It’s because there isn’t usual, every childhood is individual there. And i would not be surprised, if present children thought up new entertainment for themselves. But i see computers, game consoles, bi- and motocycles and smoke above forests now.
Thank you for 30 minuts of happy memories. 🙂

Hi! I am not Russian, however, what I have found is easy to do is go onto Skype community forums. There you can meet people from other countries, and communicate with them (I do so via text only, but your style is your choice). People are often very enthusiastic about talking to foreigners; I think you will have good luck!
