What do Russians think about Rasputin?

Question by the proff: What do Russians think about Rasputin,Was he a good guy or a villian?
i admire the man although i know very little about him, so im hopeing you Russian folks can fill me in about your thoughts for him. Is it also true that they tried to poison, shoot and drown him and he still didn’t die and also were the people who tried to kill him , homosexuals as i hve read somewhere that they were?

So far, everyone that's answered is correct, and with their own opinion on the guy. Here's some history, granted it is from Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rasputin

We really don't know that much about him, but my personal opinion is that he had too much influence on government matters. Fervently religious people shoudn't be anywhere near the reins of power. Plus, he was the one that suggested that Czar Nicholas should command the troops – utter stupidity.
The people that killed him were high rank aristocrats, that thought that they were truly doing a service to the nation. There have been rumors that Yusupov and Dmitri Romanov had a…um…close relationship at one time, but the fact that both of them had wives and children clearly shows that they were not gay.

He looked like a sorcerer and which was why it was hard for people to kill him. The history written about him, is very mysterious and spooky.
