Valid passport and a tourist visa (apply at your nearest Russian Embassy). To obtain a tourist visa, you firstly need an invite. Ether a tour or visa company can issue you with one – http://www.waytorussia.net/Travel/VisaSupport.htm…
Once inside Russia, you need to get your visa registered within 3 days (most hotels or independent visa companies can do this for you). If entreing by coach or train, make sure your visa starts when you cross the boarder, not when you arrive. Don't overstay (it's a major headache).

You need a passport and a visa. Russian visa rules are getting more and more strict… especially if you stay for an extended period of time. Check out the visa rules for citizen of your native country who want to visit Russia. Also, if you stay for an extended period of time you will be required to get an AIDS test. I spent a semester of college in Russia and they made me and the rest of the students in my program get an AIDS test at a local Russian clinic.

You need both a current passport from your home country, and a validated Russian passport for your stay. The Russian embassy in Lisbon will give you the paperwork and issue the visa. After paperwork is done, usually you can have the visa within a week.
