Baba Yaga was an evil witch and was used to keep little kids in line, also there were a lot of socalled mad russians, and they halusinated a lot they saw all kinds of wierd things happen ,it was found out later that they really did see those things, but it was because they ate rye bread and rye bread was the perfect place for a mold called ergot to grow,it is the hulsinagentic in LSD.but the poor russians didnt know that for centurys,no wonder they were some what wacko.the area of russia is ideal for the groth of ergart and who would have guessed they were tripping out for centurys and didnt realise it,the result was an aquired suspesious mind and a some what paranoid out look on every thing around them, passed down generation after generation, simular to the madness of ancient rome after they installed lead water pipes in there citys, lead poisining was the culpert, just think of caligula and nero as examples
