“Novo ” means- new. It`s like New York.We have many cities named like this:Novorossiysk, Novomoskovsk and so on.

Prefix "Ново-" means "New-":
Новосибирск = New-Siberian
Новоёрск = New-York 😉

"Novo" is neither an abbreviation of the city of Novosibirsk nor Russian word, though sounds very similar to "новое, – я", meaning "new".

there's no such word as "novo", but there's such a word as "noviy" and it's translation is "new". the whole name of the city can mean "new sibirsk"
