Question by futurefashiondesiger: What exactly was the Russian Revolution and how does it relate to Animal Farm by George Orwell?
I’ve recently begun reading Animal Farm by George Orwell for school and in the preface by Russell Baker he mentions how it relates to the Russian Revolution. So, what exactly is the Russian Revolution? I know a little bit about it but not enough to understand who certain characters in Animal Farm are supposed to be like. Can someone explain this to me?

It ain't so much about characters being like specifics. But Russia like most European Countries was run by a Monarchy. i.e. A king, or the Czars for the Russians. The Revolution overthrew the Czars and created a Communist government and formed the Soviet Union.
So in Animal Farm, people are like the Czars, and the pigs are like the communist leaders and communist party. The pigs are Stalin type characters. The other animals are your every day Russian people.

It shows how the russian goverment start communism. They start by throwing out the tsar (farmer jones), then electing a Fair equal government (the pigs). but it shows how the pigs turn old majors dream and corrupt it. He starts to edit the commandments so the pigs get more rights than everyone else so it is starting to turn into a dictatorship.he then takes away the dogs, which he trains to become his secret police… wihchthen later in the book massacre many of the animals. Boxer the carthorse represents the normal working man. Exploited by intelligence and very much down trodden.
