Question by Zach: What foreign languages do USSR students and US students learn during the cold war and now?
I heard that ussr students learned English while us students learned Russian during the cold war, really?

I heard that Ukrainians had to learn Russian and that probably was the same for a lot of countries in the USSR that weren’t Russian. Ukrainian language is making a comeback though. I don’t know about US.

In Russia, they learned English, French, and German.
I don't know what they learned in the U.S. but probably French
Today in Russia they learn English, French, German, and in some schools Chinese.
Today in the U.S. they teach mostly Spanish and French.

US students were not learning Russian during the Cold War. The most popular foreign language was still French, followed by German. The most popular language being taught now is Spanish.
Sorry, I don't know what was being taught in the Soviet Union.
