What happened to the adoptive boy sent back to Russia?

Question by Sheila: What happened to the adoptive boy sent back to Russia?
In reading a magazine article where other parents had similar issues that story is mentioned Torry hansen from Tennessee, single adoptive parent, bought one way ticket for Artyem Saveliev to Russia, and it indicates the child did at least get left at the airport, but I wanted to know what actually happened to him. Is he here in foster care? In Russia?

I believe he was adopted by a diplomatic family.

I thought that children adopted were the same ‘as if born to’? If so…then an adoptive parent would be charged with neglect/abandonment/endangerment..the same as a bio-parent. If a bio-parent had done this to their child, they would have been arrested, charged, thrown in jail and parental rights terminated.

i don’t know what happened to the boy, there were so many conflicting stories. but, like tara, i’m more sickened that little ms. “torry” just returned her kid like a defective DVD player.

torry hansen played “victim” as most entitled people do. she lawyered up and continued to “spin” the story to say that the child was “psychotic, violent, and sociopathic.” hence, “ole poor little american girl” was scammed, by the “mean ole russians”; and was just too overwhelmed that she was at her wits’ end.

so she shipped him back, without conscience.

she also wrote a note that read this:

“I am sorry to say that for the safety of my family, friends, and myself, … I no longer wish to parent this child. As he is a Russian national, I am returning him to your guardianship.”

ok…i though that adoption was a “forever family?” and that it’s the same as if having given birth. i guess that only works when the adoptee is “perfect.”

what i find amazing is that she NEVER thought that perhaps being thrown into a new culture, learning a new language, having his name changed might have possibly contributed to his behavioral issues.it was just reduced to “he was the product of an alcoholic mother and maltreatment from living in an orphanage.” this is the fundamental problem with the whole “same as if’ or “blank slate” or ” new family” theories. a canceled check, visa and new birth certificate does NOT erase a child’s past.

she’s a arrogant b* tch. and if she had done that to a biological child, she would be facing serious charges. the fact that the sheriff simply wussed out and said, “well we have no laws…” is even more reprehensible.

kudos to russia for shutting down the program. and for all those parents waiting who want to blame someone…call torry! she did what no “anti-adoption” advocates could do in a hundred years.

yet, one more reason why adoption is consumerism.

I'm more interesting in knowing what happened to Torry Hansen. Was she ever arrested and convicted? (preferably executed)

A quick google search confirms … nothing happened too her. Nothing.
