Yes, it is a mess of Russia’s (Stalin’s) making. And the russians could not care less. they created a rabid dog on their border, but that dog is not likely to bite them. So who cares?
They will play the situation for profit though- making conditions before the “agree” to any international action. Same as they are doing in Iran and Afghanistan

Nothing.
Russia's leaders still have a Cold War mindset in regards to international relations (remember,Putin is an ex head of the KGB), and see foreign policy as a Zero Sum game – anything that is good for their rivals (in this case the USA) must,by definition, be bad for Russia. They don't look at international affairs in a way that could be advantageous to both them and their rivals, they don't think like that.

You must remember, this is a new Russia. DPRK was hurt badly by the fall of the USSR, and it fell to PRC to provide support. Now that Russia is non-marxist, they don't have anything to do with DPRK. Thier ideologies are opposite now. PRC is the powerhouse of the quadrent, and thus is able to provide support to smaller countries with the same ideals. USA is not "cleaning up" the mess, they are supoosedly being a barrier for ROK against the Juche Ideology of DPRK. As soon as they leave the penninsula, on their reckoning, DPRK will take over the South and impose their marxist ideals. On the other hand, DPRK states that they want the majority of USA to leave the Korean penninsula, so that a peaceful reunification can be met. It happened in Germany, so it can happen there too.
