Question by Alex M: What is the best collection of rachmaninoff preludes?
I’m just wondering which edition to buy seeing as it will last me for the rest of my life. Are there any recent ones worth knowing about?
Thanks

well this isnt a prelude but i think its one of his best works he has EVER done..
‘Eighteenth Variation from Rapsodie on a Theme of Paganini’..
this piece is for orchestra but there are many different variations which has been arranged for solo instruments
Also look up
Liszt
‘Hungarian Rhapsody No.2. for the piano’
If you dont play piano then im sure this piece has been arranged for other instruments too, just go and have a look around

I assume you mean recorded collection. Although she is not a 'star' name. my wife and I love the recording by Idil Biret on Naxos. Ms Biret is a Turkish pianist, a pupil of Wilhelm Kempff and a winner of prizes for her complete Chopin, also on Naxos. See her website:- http://www.idilbiret.eu/.
And the CD:- Préludes op. 23 / Cinq morceaux de fantaisie op. 3
Naxos 8.550348
In passing, why do people give totally irrelevant answers, like the first one? It isn't clever, it just shows ignorance. When in doubt, say nowt.
