Hi Cheryl– It would be impossible for me to give you the BEST one ever recorded because I simply have not heard them all. However, I am a great fan of “Pictures at an Exhibition” and I can tell you this: while working at CAMI (Columbia Artist Music Management, Inc.–representatives and agents of the finest classical musicians in the world) in New York City, a co-worker of mine suggested Lorin Maazel and The Cleveland Orchestra’s recording which was originally released in 1979 and is now available on TELARC Digital Stereo CD format. This is my favorite recording to date. This is the Moussorgsky-Ravel “Pictures at an Exhibition” and it contains all of the pieces. The running time is 30:17.
This same disc also contains Moussorgsky–Rimsky-Korsakov “Night on Bald Mountain” (10:24).
