we were in class today and our teacher would not thell us what the broth is in borsch telll me please what is it

It is a stew but mainly cooked with beetroots. That gives it that red colouring.

    Beef stock, made from tails, shanks, or ribs. Long and slow simmered with onions, celery and carrots to melt the marrow inside the bones for thick richness. Grandma always added whole peppercorns, a bay leaf or two and kosher salt. Really nothing more than a really long simmered classic beef stock.
