st petersburg is more compact and easier to get around. there is a performing arts’ district with a wide variety od shows available. theatre, classical music, etc, and all within walking distance of the circus. moscow is BIG and RUSSIAN. you probably would travel to many more city-districts to do all you want. spb to me, is european moreso than moscow. spb has coffeehouses in some districts lining the streets. maybe it is so lately in moscow, too, but it seems not so widespread in moscow. both have a stunningly efficient metro.(underground, subway, tube).

The Old American West??? If you want to compare Moscow to something American, New York City would be more appropriate. Moscow is the business center of Russia.

St. Peterburg is a more European city – more cosmopolitan and relaxed.
