Are you white enough? Do you know Russian language well enough not to sound foreign? No, no, Russians are not racists… But if you not white and don’t speak very well Russian, you are screwed. Not that you find any job (you won’t), you probably won’t live long enough…
Oh, yes as for the paperwork. If you passed the border (you need mostly money, not any papers to do so), most probably nobody will ask you about them (the papers), unless they suspect from your behavior. And they do watch you every moment they see you. Sorry, Russian nature (after WWII).
Unless you work for foreign company and operate as a sale agent or similar to that, forget it. But if you a girl, you may get a chance (you should understand consequences).

It is very hard to find job in Russia for foreigner because it requires a lot a papers for companies to hire them.
The best way is to work for big company in your country who has relations with Russia, may be, has its own offices here. Then they may send you to Russia.
The second way is try to find job in Russia when you are at home and go here already with job and working visa. The most popular work for English-speaking people is teaching English.
Check this site (community for english-speaking people who live in Russia): http://www.expat.ru/
    They have vacancies: http://www.expat.ru/vacancies.php
and also you can write your CV and possibly somebody in Russia will hire you.
