Question by Nickname: What kind of caviar did I eat?
I had some black colored caviar that was very salty in taste. I enjoyed it, but do not know what type of caviar it was? I had it on crackers along with straight shots of vodka.
Any idea?

Contemporary black caviar is roe from sturgeon fished from the Caspian Sea by Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia and Kazakhstan. since fine Beluga is about $ 300-$ 400 an ounce, and Ossetra, and Sevruga only slightly less, unless you are very wealthy, i’m guessing yours is american. and too, there are import bans on Caspian caviar in america. this leads me to think you must have had salmon roe, possibly with food coloring as salmon eggs are bright pinkish orange.

Not likely Salmon. It is pink and left that way. There are several kinds that are black including American paddlefish and cod.
