Technically, the only US legal AK pattern rifles not made in the states are Saigas with the sportster stock, which are made by Izhmash, a Russian arms manufacturer. The US bans "non-sporting weapons" that are made in other countries. In order to be legal, the gun can have no more than 10 parts off the following list that are made in other countries:
(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
(2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors
(15) Buttstocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearms, handguards
(18) Magazine bodies
(19) Followers
(20) Floorplates
Most guns will not have all of these parts to begin with, so if the gun has 14 total parts off the list, you only have to remove or replace 4 parts to be legal. Just using US made magazines is usually good for 3 parts (body, follower, floorplate)
Most AK's sold in the US are brought in as surplus parts, or with several parts missing, and then assembled together with US made parts to build guns that are legally US made.
The Saigas are sportster guns, without a pistol grip, that are considered to be sporting weapons, which is why they don't have to be US made.
As far as what companies produce AK's around the world, Izhmash, Norinco (China), Molot (Russia), Kovrov (Russia), and probably hundreds of other arsenals all produce AK's to sell around the world.

If you're so damned Anti-American, feel free to live in another nation which would prohibit the ownership of near *all* firearms… including the beloved (*snicker*) AK-47/74 you kiddies love so much.
You're a goddamn communist.

As the son of a Austrian immigrant, who lived in Austria for 3 months, visits Europe annually I do NOT take the freedoms in this great country for granted.
My cousins have a 60+ acer farm, witch they have for hunting, guess what kind of firearms they can have?!?!
Well before the U.N. came in, they could have handguns. Now that is almost impossible, almost.
They now have shotguns and rimfire rifles.
Going back to you're question, just look on the rifle when you go to a gun store. It will say what country its made in, and most are made in china and Russia. The main manufacture for Russia is Izhevsk and to be honest, if I wanted to buy an AK47 I would buy the Russian made one. Just my opinion.
