Question by Roma S: what was good about glasnost and perestroika?
I need to formally write why glasnost and perestroika was good and why it was bad. at least give me ideas, ill write it formally.
Does anyone know just ONE OR TWO facts? if so, please tell me. thanks. if it is good i will immediatley make u best answer

It was mostly good. When Gorbachev came to power in the USSR he saw how messed up the country was, and how bad the cold war had made things in Russia itself.
Glasnost means “openness” and translated to loosening the CCCP’s control on the media and free speech.
Perestroika means “restructuring” and allowed more freedom in the economy (less communism)
together they kinda ended the cold war because the USSR began spending money on helping people, and the relaxation of strict military control led to revolutions in Eastern Europe.
I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t want this, apart from a Russian general or a Nuclear Holocaust enthusiast.
