He presided over the dissolution of the Soviet Union. If he hadn't done so, the world would be very different, as there would still be two main superpowers on the planet, instead of just one, the US. Future historians will judge him as a great man who was able to bring the world to be a much safer place by dissolving the Soviet Union.
