Mikhail Kalashnikov designed the AK-47 at various places through out Russia, but finalized the design in a competition between several legendary Russian weapons designers. The AK-47 was first mass produced at Izhevsk Mechanical Works, which is located appx. 1,000 kilometers west of Moscow, Russia. Izhevsk was originally a motorbike manufacturer and was later converted into a weapons factory. You can read all of this in Mikhail Kalashnikov's biography "The Gun that Changed the World".

it was designed by michael kalashnikov(yes im probably spelling it wrong) and the first place to produce them would have been tula, izhevsk, or some other russian armory

    EDIT:
my guess would be izhevsk because they have a museum dedicated to it there

I believe it was Mikhail Kalashnikov
he based the design from the German STG 44 or Sturmgewher 44
