Peter the Great modernized Russia and turned the country into a major European power for the first time,accepted as such by the other major powers of the day.
The Great Elector turned Brandenburg-Prussia from a small unimportant German state into a major German state,and laid the foundations of what would later become the Prussian army and the Kingdom of Prussia under his successors over the next half century following his rule.
