What would be a good Russian dish to cook for a girlfriend?

Question by bsbll250: What would be a good Russian dish to cook for a girl?
I have a date planned, and I am considering cooking for her. She is originally from Russia, and I think she would like it if I made a Russian dish.

However, I have no idea what Russian food consists of.

Price is not an issue. My cooking skills are limited to following directions. And she probably would like to help, so it could be a lot of fun.

Any suggestions?

since it’s maslenitsa time cook bliny.

Steve, bliny can be any type of food, for example bliny with ham and cheese hardly sound like a dessert. and again, it’s maslenitsa, it’s a “sin” not to cook bliny now…
for your vodka comment – argh..

First, think of how you’d feel if you went to Russia and your Russian date made an “American food” for you.

It probably wouldn’t turn out “right” to someone really familiar with that food, and could even be a dish that person doesn’t particularly like from their culture. But it wouldn’t probably be all that special to you unless it were just the fact that your date cared enough to try.

Cooking a special food of *yours* or from your culture (American or whatever) for her would probably be more special to her.

If you want, later you could ask her for foods and dishes from her culture she likes and that you could trying making for her as a special treat. She might even want to “help” you prepare the dish, or shop for it/etc, and that might be really fun (and bonding).
If it were me, I’d love someone from Russia actually teaching me to make piroshkis (pirozhki)! I ate a lot of street food when I was there. Both of you could freeze any of those that were leftover too.

Here are some Russian dishes though:

Beef Stroganoff is a Russian-ish dish, not really ethnic Russian. Borscht and kasha would be Russian. Beet soup and buckwheat grits. I don’t have recipes for them but a search will surely find them both. Not so hard to do, and good if done well.

If she’s from Russia, bland Russian food is probably the last thing on her mind. But if you insist, a bottle of vodka, a pickle and some smokes. When shes passed out get creative with the pickle.

    You’re welcome.

Beef Stroganoff – quite a romantic dish.
Go here, the recipe and instructions are below the video : http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-beef-stroganoff-3
Suggestion – serve over plain boiled white rice

Quite quick and easy to make – my verdict: Delicious and more-ish.

I may be wrong, but bliny sounds to be a breakfast type food or at a minimum a dessert.

Being Russian, she’d appreciate it if you poured a bunch of good vodka into her and fed her pretty much anything. Look up a recipe for goulash (pretty much beef, onions & paprika) served with broad egg noodles if you want to cook for her. It may sound nasty but it’s easy as pie, delicious and originates in Hungary which has at one point in time or another been occupied by Russia.

Beef Stroganoff as suggested below is another good choice but I’d stick with the broad egg noodles rather than rice. My preference though.
