What’s the difference between whiskey and vodka?

Question by mark: Is the difference between whiskey and vodka just the oak barrel aging of whiskey and the filtering of vodka?
Both whiskey and vodka can be made of the same grain

Both are distilled

Whiskey is then normally aged in wood where vodka is not

Vodka is sometimes distilled multiple times and is also typically filtered whereas whiskey is not filtered

Is that it for the differences? Or is there something I am missing

There are sometimes additional processes to add flavor to the grain in making whiskey. For Scotch, for example, some of the malted grain is smoked. Whiskey is distilled to a lower proof level than vodka, to preserve flavor. The stills used can be different, too. Pot stills, which distill in a batch process, are often used for whiskey, while continuous stills are used for vodka. Both whiskey and vodka are distilled multiple times, but it's only two or three times for whiskey, versus as many as six times for vodka.
