Question by hi 🙂: Authentic Russian Dolls?
My mother’s friend recently gave me an authentic Russian Nesting Doll (or Matryoshka doll) because she heard I was collecting them.
The ones she gave me are wooden, handpainted, and beautiful. As she gave them to my mother she said that her uncle had gone to Russia in 1998 and bought them there.
She said that the six-piece set shows the Apostles, Mary, and Jesus Christ.
It has some Russian handwriting which I cannot seem to tell what it means. The best I could seem to get was E. Schmitz. But that doesn’t seem very Russian?
Does anybody have any history on my new Matryoshka dolls? I would love to hear it and if you have a picture of something that looks like mine I would love to see it.
THANKS 😀
