Question by Kristen: When did Russia release information about the Chernobyl explosion?
I know it happened on April 25, 1986, and that Russia kept quiet about it for a long time.
When did they finally release information worldwide?

If I remember correctly, it wasn’t kept quiet long at all. They maybe didn’t include complete information, but I think it was publicized fairly quickly.
The long term environmental and health repercussions probably weren’t publicized in a timely way either – not to mention accurately.
I love the Russians, but they seem to have a big inferiority complex and just don’t like to show weakness in any way.

That was an ugly day, and it took them a while considering the imminent danger their people were dealing with.
