When in Russia what kind of food is a “must try?”

Question by One Wing Eagle Woman: In Russia, what kind of food is a “must try?” I want to find the best places to eat. Help?
Tourist packages leave me cold. I want to see as much as I can in two weeks. Travel agenda suggestions?

    you should totally try Blins (pancakes), kvass (non-alcoholic drink), borshch (soup with beetroot), shashlik (awesome meat)

    the best places to eat are the ones that are not very expensive and not very cheap, if you go to Moscow there’s one awesome center called Okhotnyi ryad, situated right in the center of Moscow (1 minute on foot from the Red Square), and in that center there’s AWESOME food and not expensive at all!

    also there are “coffee house” and shokoladnitsa which serve delicious desserts

    if you’re travelling to Moscow – the best things to see are VDNKH, Victory Park, Red Square, Tretiakov Gallery and many many more, depends on what you’re interested in seeing

    besides, there’s always me who can guide you through the best places 😀

    Borsh (cabbage soup with beef), pelmeni ….yummmmmm, and grechka (something you can try only in Russia).
