Question by Julia C.: When is the peak of autumn in St. Petersburg in Russia? I would like to visit the city next year.?
I would like to plan to visit St. Petersburg and Moscow next year via river cruise. Since I like autumn, I thought fall might be a good season to go. How is the weather in autumn there? Any other advise will be greatly appreciated.

i would say middle or the end of September. this period of time is great. usually it’s not raining, the trees are colorfull, the sun is shining. very romantic and poetic.

Seems the other posters didn't catch the part about river cruising. You won't find many if any cruises going after the 1st week of september. Also, it can be quite chilly after August. I spent a week in both cities for the past 2 septembers and I saw the sun about 10% of the time and the temp was from 30 to 55 deg. F with a strong breeze and some frost (although that was unusual they told me).
Try to go at the beginning of September if you are doing a river cruise.

I would say, that the best autumn time in SPb is between the end of September and the begining of October. Trees are already golden and red, but it's not too cold and weather is usually fine.
