Question by Kat: What do you think of Russia’s timing to cut of the natural gas in Below freezing temperatures?
Just want to hear people’s thoughts on this issue. January is the coldest month over there and its obviously a conscious choice and that can result if a large group of people dying.
Anyone feel like protesting against Russia?
Yes, they do owe russia money, but they didn’t cut off gas during the fall, or in two month when it starts getting warmer…. And it can get really bad…

It’s pretty nasty. Not as bad as you think,, the Ukraine has a reserve that should last until Spring.

Yesterday Putin hold press conference for foreign correspondents explaining every detail of this row.
This gas crisis happens every year and always in winter, because contract ends at New Year Eve. As Putin said yesterday talks on new contract started in January 2007, but they talked and talked and talked till now. So cold is just coincidence. As I know Putin has nothing to do with such weather, but some newspapers report, that it was Russia to blame for such cold temperatures in Europe)))

I read an article about this and didn't quite get all the details, but it seems like Russia is in the power position and is playing its card to its greatest advantage. People have already died (13 is what I remember reading). It's a terrible thing……brutality!

It's a cold, cruel world. Russia doesn't operate on Reganomics nor celebrate in the Roman version of Jesus. Nations must operate in their own self-interest and Russia sits on the largest block of undeveloped land on earth, and Russia shares a boundary with world's largest populated country, China, which has scarce natural resources and land.
