There is no need for any person to have an automatic weapon.

Jack A..lmao….just because it's an AK doesnt mean it's an automatic weapon. Dumb Jack A!
A Russian is going to be hard too find and expensive. If you want a copycat of the original get an Egyptian Maadi.
1. Bulgarian SLR-95; SLR-96 & SA-93 (all milled-receivers – EXCELLENT GUNS!)
2. Chinese MAK-90 rifles – both stamped and milled receiver models (if you look hard enough) can be found as well as the stamped military-style NHM-90 rifles.
3. Chinese RPK Sporters NMH-91 (stamped) & milled MAK-91
4. Hungarian SA-85M by F.E.G.
5. Maadi ARM, RPM & RML models from Egypt, but stay away from Maadi MISR-90 & MISR-10 models…)
6. Romanian Intrac MK-1, Romak-1 or "WUM-1" models (only imported in 1997) NOT Romanian WASR-10 and some SAR-1 models – which are at their best – MARGINALLY OK' as quality varies alot with Romanian rifles!

Century Arms makes a Wasr 10 that's cheap, reliable, cheap to shoot and every bit as good as an AR-15 at 100 yards (the limit at the local range is 200 yds)
Comes with 2 magazines, tool kit, scope mount (side), can of oil,and a sling, (Unless your guy is the kind who would open the box and sell you the stuff as accessories)

The Israeli Galil, Swedish Valmet M62 or the Czech VZ58 are all refined AK variants that have improved on the basic AK47 design, although I wouldn't call them economical if you don't want to spend over $ 500. If that's the case you might as well stick with a chinese, russian, or polish AK.

An original Russian AK-47 would be best, but trying to find and "original" would be hard. There was an East German copy that came out a few years ago called a Wieger. These are reported to be some of the best. I own a Wieger in 5.56 (.223), they are also made in 7.62×39. Check here:
Also the Polish Tantal in 5.45×39 is very good weapon.

I can't answer your question because I don't know squat about AK-47 rifles, but you might check into an SKS. They're the same caliber as an AK, they look similar to an AK, they're generally a little cheaper and (in my experience shooting the two) they are quite a bit more accurate than the AK. The downside is that they're harder to find and don't hold quite the value of an AK. Just a thought… Enjoy it, whatever you get, and shoot safe man.
