A very readable is very well said. I like Anna Karenina very much. And well, no matter which book you will read first, i think you should read both of them. In Anna Karenina there were some places that were so surprising, that i had to reread in order to believe my eyes.
They are both very good choices.

I read Anna Karenina when I was very young and I think that helped prevent me from being intimidated by the size and reputation of War and Peace. I love Anna Karenina but of the two War and Peace is my favorite. In fact it is one of my favorite books in the world. Still, I think that for most people I would recommend reading Anna first. Really though, you can't go wrong. Just do read them.
Oh, and not to be snotty or anything but I've never needed a dictionary to read either of them. They are not especially difficult, in fact they are amazingly readable. Please don't think of them as medicine or anything, they are really alot of fun.

It really is handy to have a dictionary, like she said. I like Anna Karenina better than War and Peace, but both were excellent books. I don't think it really matters which one you read first, I read Anna Karenina but if you went by date you would read War and Peace.
