Question by Mr. Fancy Pants: Who is the best Russian writer? I love russian literature.?
Pushkin, Tolstoy, Chekov, Dostoevsky, Gogol, and any others.
If you want explain why and what stories you like. I have to sub for a russian lit class next semester since the prof. went back to Moscow to see his sick father. I am trying to assign four short books. Its at a community college non-western lit class.

I, personally, am in love with Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Crime & Punishment, The Brothers Karamizov, The Idiot). Leo Tolstoy is also very good (Anna Karenina).

I like all the ones you mentioned, especially the last four. What about Nabokov and Solzhenitsyn? I would recommend that you avoid the really depressing work by Dostoevsky.

Dostoevsky. He could bring out the best of expression in human emotion of his characters.
