How do you know they're Russian? Do they tell you or maybe you hear them speak it?

I've worked with many Russians in the past and I can tell you that it's not about them being rude or anything, at least not most of the time.

They just have a different mentality about certain things than we do – it's a cultural upbringing factor.

For example, they believe that when they're in a store or a servicing place such as a bar/deli/restaurant, that they come first and you must please them with good service and products. Not the way around. It's just the way they see it.

Here's a TIP to get some positive feedback from them:
Next time a Russian customer comes in, show an interest in their language and culture.

For example, say something like: "I like the sound of the language you speak. Is it Russian? Do you think it would be difficult for an English-speaking person to learn it?"

You'd be surprised at how they'll smile back and reply to you!

Some cultures have different ideas about these things. Some people think Americans look like idiots, smiling at strangers and chatting up everyone. They probably consider you forward and familiar, and aren't about to encourage your informality, which would be considered rudeness in their own country.

I'm sure you've dealt with this when people are going to get married and the two families meet. The one family says "Those people don't know how to behave! They have no manners at all!" while the other says "Those people are so stuck up! They have no warmth at all!"

Beccause of what they went through before they came here and what they heard we are like. Try being friendly and see where that gets you

It is probably just a cultural thing. You see it differently than they do. Patience is a virture. Just smile and tell them to have a happy day.

how do you know they are Russian? I'd say that was pretty racist. and I resent that as Russian-American.

Would you be happy if all you knew was dispair in life? Eastern Europens deal with a lot of rain and cold weather.
