I heard Marc Chagall stopped working for almost a year because of her death.

“On September 2, 1944, Bella died suddenly due to a virus infection,
which was not treated due to the wartime shortage of medicine.
As a result, he stopped all work for many months, and when he did
resume painting his first pictures were concerned with preserving
Bella’s memory.”

She passed away from a virus infection. Marc Chagall stopped working for nine months, occupying himself solely with bringing out her writings under the title 'Lighted Lamps.'
