The two countries were NEVER allies in the proper sense of the term. After WWII the Communists tried to enslave the free world and the two U.S. presidents during WWII had given their OKay for them to do so. After the war, actual patriots, like Eisenhower wanted to curb the murderous activities of the Communists and met resistance from Roosevelt and Truman’s supporters.

Before WWII, the US had supported the Parliament-like system of elected representatives that had taken over after the Czar abdicated. The Dictaror-type Communists under Lenin however came out the winners and enslavers of the Russian people and formed the Soviet Union.

When Stalin assisted Hitler in starting WWII, the U.S. VERY Foolishly supported and supplied them (of coures a communist Roosevelt was in power at the time). After supplying them with food and equipment, Roosevelt and Truman promised the Communists almost half of free Europe as slave labor and free raw materials. When The Soviets saw that they couldn’t get ALL of Europe, they started the Cold War, which they continued to win until Reagan destroyed them. This was much to the dismay of the American Democrats, but with the blessings of the spirit of Winston Churchill.

Mutual mistrust. Stalin didn’t keep his word regarding a post war Polish government. The US and Britain wanted a nonpartisan government, but Stalin installed a pro USSR puppet government. That, and their claims on all of eastern Europe being “under the protection” of the Soviet Union made Churchill and Truman deeply mistrust the Soviets. The last straw for western/USSR relations was when the Soviets cut off all land and railroad access to West Berlin in 1948, making it necessary to airlift food and fuel 24 hours a day for months to keep the citizens from starving and freezing.

Because The USSR knew that they had the atom bomb so they were trying to get the upper hand by making many nukes and saying stuff like “oh we have so many bombs we can kill your country” “oh yeah well we have so many bombs that we can kill your country twice”
“oh well we have so many bombs we can blow up half the world” etc.
It was mostly just a word fight eventhough they really did have that many bombs.

They finaly agreed to dismantle all the bombs after a while
