He painted because he had the need of expressing himself. He had also the need of making a life. Why did he painted in the way he did? He started painting in a figurative way; he was a teacher at Bauhaus and also he wrote books like About spiritual in art. So, perhaps he wanted to express throuhg his own spirit further the material appearance of things; abstraction

Kandinsky wasn’t just your average painter out there to perform one style of art. Through his paintings he constantly pioneered new ideas on the way art could be done; as you may know he was one of the first abstract artists and experimented with color and form more than any of his peers. I think he painted to open people’s minds to new ideas on how art could be done and to express his feelings in an original way.
